Gifts of the Holy Spirit

‘’ For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.

1 Corinthians 12:8-10 NKJV
How would you feel when someone, not on your birthday or a particular day, gives you a beautiful gift? Gifts are things that make everyone happy whenever they receive one. Gifts are things given out without payment. Anything you get without paying for it is a gift. Of course, we have to pay for everything we buy, which makes gifts unique. An important thing we should know about gifts is that they are of various types. There are inborn gifts; they are the ones we call talents. When we are born, we possess an extraordinary ability to do something in a way that some other people cannot do – it is called gifts. Another type is spiritual gifts. These gifts are called the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Only one person can give these kinds of gifts, the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God through Christ Jesus – the third of the Trinity. Most of us are familiar with physical gifts. Sadly we don’t mind or find out about the other kinds of gifts, the spiritual gifts.

What are the gifts of the Holy Spirit?

The gifts of the Holy Spirit are the unique spiritual abilities that come from God to Christians to prepare them for His work on earth. It will be hard to expand the body of Christ or preach the Gospel if the gifts of the Spirit weren’t available. Before the followers of Jesus received the Holy Spirit, they were unable to preach the Gospel or do the work of God without fear. When the Holy Spirit came, there were given various gifts to use. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are listed in 1 Corinthians 12:1-11. The reason why God gives us these gifts is that we need them in these last days. God had already promised these gifts in Joel 2:28, “And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.” God promised these gifts, Jesus before God took him to heaven promised this again. It is the time to possess the Holy Spirit according to the promise of God.

Facts about the Gifts of the Spirit.

What differentiates the gifts from the Holy Spirit and the Gifts from other sources of spiritual gifts is that the one from the Spirit is pure and perfect. There is no other way of getting pure gifts except God through Christ. James 1:7. People with magic, or sorcerers, their gifts are not from God. Inborn gifts are the natural gifts that must have been through genetics – some abilities gotten from the parents. It is until when you are filled with the Holy Spirit that these gifts come. As Christians, we have a role to play in the body of Christ; it should be a great privilege for us to work for God. You must find which gifts God gave you to be able to fulfill God’s purpose. Paul talked about the body of Christ, and he used the part of the body as an illustration, just as the body parts need each other. We need ourselves to build and expand the body of Christ. 1 Corinthians 12:12 “Just as a body, though one, has many parts, all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.” The body parts aren’t divided. We must be working together with love as Christians.

How to get the gifts of the Holy Spirit?

It is essential to pray and ask to be filled with the source of these gifts. When the Holy Spirit comes in, the gifts will come. You shouldn’t take prayer out of the ways that you can get the Holy Spirit. God told us to ask Him whatever we want, and He will do – we should pray to God and ask for the Holy Spirit. It is the step that proceeds repentance or being born again. Matthew 7:7. Faith is evidence of what we want – God likes those who have faith in him and those who don’t, he is not pleased with. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are privileges, like a bonus that comes with a product. When you place your faith in God, He is pleased, and then He will give these gifts. It is all based on faith – the prayer we pray must be backed with faith to be answered. Hebrews 11:1-6.
